SAM STRACHAN Role – Lead Broadcaster, Commentator D.O.B. - 18th April 1979 Hometown – The Eyrie, England, UK Promotions worked for:- Universal Championship Wrestling (1997 – 2005) Fantasy Wrestling Federation (2005 – 2011) Phoenix Wrestling Enterprise (2007) New Wave (2011 – present) NEWera (2013 – 2014) With a worldwide cult following, Sam “the Man” Strachon is often referred to as the voice of professional wrestling, with over two decades of broadcasting in five major promotions. Son of UCW owner Sandy Strachon, Sam had been involved backstage since childhood and made his television debut for the company in 1997 (on his 18th birthday) as an on-screen interviewer. His family connections and pompous attitude were unpopular, but Sam's dry charisma and his deep involvement in shows – including a bizarre, although luckily short-lived, UCW title reign – drew a lot of outside attention. The “cocky little twerp” (as once described by former UCW champion and NW Gladiator, Marcus Brody Snr.) had become a feature attraction and it wasn't long until he was bumped up to the announcers' table, where he was an immediate hit. In 2004, two of the company's top wrestlers split from the company to form FWF, which lead to tensions between the two promotions for the following year, culminating in a ten men elimination match at 'Collision: FWF vs UCW' in 2005. UCW lost the bout. Alongside many of the roster, Sam was drafted to FWF to commentate on its second branded show, Live-Wire. FWF gave Sam a global platform and his love-to-hate and on-screen persona gave him his celebrity status. He is one of the few sought-after broadcasters in the business, having been contracted by a number of promotions, including, we are proud to say, New Wave.
JACK LONDON Role – Co-Commentator D.O.B. - 3rd February 1993 Hometown – Chicago, Illinois, USA Jack London graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in sports broadcasting. He was an avid pro-wrestling fan, submitting a paper titled 'McMahonism: Turns Blood into Wine' for his minor degree in journalism. Jack was an avid rower and was captain of the college's rowing team until a freak paddle-related accident cost him his left leg. Worried about getting his prosthetic wet, Jack traded his oar for a headset and pursued his second love, broadcasting.
SOPHIE COOPER Role – Interviewer D.O.B. - 18th November 1987 Hometown – Belfast, N. Ireland, UK Younger patrons of the New Wave Nation's Northern Irish branch may well recognise Sophie Cooper as the presenter of the children's local TV show 'Play With Kids'. Sophie moved to Manchester, England three years ago to continue her presenting career, and her dream is to one day host her own show.
SLEAZY JIM Role - Ring Announcer D.O.B. - unknown Hometown - unknown No one really know who he is or how he got his position with the company. Some believe he is a former "business associate" or Mr. Sharp serving penance. Others say he is a government spy. All we know is, Sleazy Jim is New Wave's ring announcer and fully-qualified (so he tell us) referee's understudy.
DAVE GARDNER Role - Referee D.O.B. - 26th October 1954 Hometown - Houston, Texas Dave is a referee. Dave can count to three. |
